How this knowledge is made and checked

Every page on this site is generated from a single knowledge base with a strict rule: no claim without a source, no source below official level.

The verification pipeline

1. Drafting. Each residence status is researched against primary law (gesetze-im-internet.de), federal authorities (BAMF, Bundesagentur für Arbeit, ministries) and — clearly flagged — Berlin municipal pages. Sources are ranked A (statutes) to C (municipal); legal claims never rest on anything below C.
2. Source review. Every individual fact is then re-checked against its cited source: the source is fetched, and the fact only counts as verified if the source text directly supports it — with the verbatim quote recorded. Facts that fail are corrected to the source wording or publicly marked as open questions. Current state: 415 of 415 facts verified; the 4 exceptions are listed in the files themselves.
3. Weekly re-checking. A register tracks every source with a volatility class: statute text is re-checked every 90 days, official guidance every 30, volatile figures (fees, salary thresholds, deadlines) every 14. Detected changes go through a versioned update process — never silent edits.

What this site is not

Not legal advice, not an authority, not affiliated with any German Behörde. Where the law is genuinely unsettled, the pages say so instead of inventing an answer — see the "open questions" section on every status page. The English edition is the authoritative one; the German edition is a faithful translation that declares this on every page.
